This pretty bunch of bright blooms, and the pink, beautifully wooded area we found were just about perfect. They looked made for this sweet couple. I loved being the photographer for this couple: John and Georgia. These high school sweethearts are head over heels for each other, and have been together for six and a half years. Their wedding is coming up, at the American Swedish Institute, a stunning historical mansion and museum/cultural center.
For their session, we met up at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, which is simply stunning. It boasts over 1,100 acres of horticulture gardens, filled with annual and perennial blooms, and natural areas like woodlands and marshes. You could spend days in the lush greenery and florals that this land offers! For us, it was just the backdrop we were hoping for to celebrate this couple’s love story. Congratulations, Georgia and John! If you’re interested in an engagement session, please contact me here.
Helpful Tips for Business Headshots and Corporate Portraits
We all know that first impressions are everything, and for many people you will interact with in the corporate world, that means your first impression is a photo. Whether it’s on your blog, profile, or business card, a photo can be your first foot forward. That means you want a portrait that captures who you are: polished and professional! A blurry, amateur photo does you no favors…consider your photo your personal branding, and show your very best self. Here’s a few tips to make your headshot incredible:
-Choose a professional outfit in a classic cut and look: You don’t want to look dated within a year, so choose pieces with a classic feel. Make sure it is tailored well, and try bending and moving in it to make sure it appears great for portraits.
-Steam or dry clean/iron your ensemble: Wrinkles show up in portraits, so be sure to steam or press your outfit, including collars and sleeves/cuffs.
–Recommended attire: For men: a dark suit or sport coat, light-colored shirt, and tie. Clothing with tight grids or a small herringbone pattern can have a moiré pattern effect on camera, please avoid them. Thin stripes are okay. For women: a dark suit coat and contrasting blouse or darker colored dress. V-necks accentuate the neckline and are most flattering on women. Avoid turtlenecks, they tend to make people look like they don’t have a neck in photos.
-Keep your jewelry simple and classy. We want the focus to be on you!
I will use lighting, posing, and of course, Photoshop to help you look your best!

As the Class of 2016 prepares to walk across that stage and receive that very hard-earned diploma, I wanted to wish them a big congratulations! Not only is this group of seniors smart, kind, and athletic, they also are going forward into the world to do amazing things. The seniors below are heading off to serve our country in the military, to achieve new academic milestones at Ivy Leagues, Engineering schools, and continuing their athletics at college, as well.
You might be wondering what part a senior photographer plays in the final year of high school. I hope that the photos I hand over to each senior and their parents will always remind them of the celebrations and milestones that the year held. They may forget my name, but I will never forget their smiles and hearts, and I hope that they will always treasure their senior photos! I’m so proud of these 2016 grads from Chanhassen, Chaska, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Shakopee, Waconia, Holy Family, Benilde St. Margaret, and Minneapolis South. I wish you all nothing but happiness and success!
“A good friend is hard to find…they are like rare jewels, hidden among many, and sparkling beyond compare. A lifelong friend is even harder to find, they are like the diamonds you search your whole life for.” -Unknown
This was an incredibly special shoot, because it represented many, many years of friendship! These beautiful ladies have been friends since middle school, shared memories as college roommates, and are celebrating this season of life when they are getting ready to move forward with their lives and careers. One is already married, and another is preparing for her wedding! This was a chance to capture a snapshot in time, and the beauty of their twenties.
Best friends sessions are growing in popularity among my clients. They are such a wonderful way to preserve a time or a season in your life that may not fit a “traditional milestone” like the birth of a baby or an engagement. Instead, they are a way to commemorate the people who are such an integral part of your life…your friends! For this dreamy, on-location session, we went for a bohemian feel with lots of tulle, neutral tones, and the perfect little flower crowns. These girls were armed with perpetual smiles and tons of laughter, and we had a great day together! I wish them all the best in their new endeavors, and hope they will love having these to look back on in years to come!
