Helpful Tips for Business Headshots and Corporate Portraits
We all know that first impressions are everything, and for many people you will interact with in the corporate world, that means your first impression is a photo. Whether it’s on your blog, profile, or business card, a photo can be your first foot forward. That means you want a portrait that captures who you are: polished and professional! A blurry, amateur photo does you no favors…consider your photo your personal branding, and show your very best self. Here’s a few tips to make your headshot incredible:
-Choose a professional outfit in a classic cut and look: You don’t want to look dated within a year, so choose pieces with a classic feel. Make sure it is tailored well, and try bending and moving in it to make sure it appears great for portraits.
-Steam or dry clean/iron your ensemble: Wrinkles show up in portraits, so be sure to steam or press your outfit, including collars and sleeves/cuffs.
–Recommended attire: For men: a dark suit or sport coat, light-colored shirt, and tie. Clothing with tight grids or a small herringbone pattern can have a moiré pattern effect on camera, please avoid them. Thin stripes are okay. For women: a dark suit coat and contrasting blouse or darker colored dress. V-necks accentuate the neckline and are most flattering on women. Avoid turtlenecks, they tend to make people look like they don’t have a neck in photos.
-Keep your jewelry simple and classy. We want the focus to be on you!
