Senior Portrait Tips

You’ve waited your whole life for this, your senior year. A new journey lies ahead of you, and there are so many choices to be made. We at Remember Me Photography want to make this process as easy as possible for you, so that is why we’ve compiled a list of tips and information to help you prepare for your upcoming senior session with us.

And now, on to the tips!

Generally Speaking

Because peeling skin does not look attractive in photos, please avoid over-sunning or sunburn.

Do not worry about minor breakouts, or complexion problems. These can be fixed post-session. Heavy breakouts can also be retouched, but may require an additional retouching fee. Also, scars and braces can be removed as well.

Lastly, I encourage you to bring items that help define who you are; such as a guitar, soccer ball, hobbies, even a car. Bringing a pet is okay too; however, please make sure there is someone there to take of the pet while you are being photographed. Remember, these images are about self-expression, who you are. Use your creativity for the items you want to bring.

Small details matter, please have your nails neatly trimmed and polished. Don’t forget your toes! As tempting as it might be, I do not recommend trying out any new hairstyles or coloring in the event you are not satisfied with the outcome, however a hair trim is a great idea. Bring along any hair accessories for easy style changes.

As for makeup, slightly heavier makeup photographs well. However, be sure not to over-due it.  Pay extra attention to the eye makeup, avoiding clumps in the mascara. To eliminate shine, please remember to bring along translucent powder.  Make up with glitter does not photograph well. We do offer professional hair and make-up styling as an add on.

Now for clothing, clothes that flatter you are best—baggy clothing may make you look larger. Also, be aware of the right undergarments. Wearing white pants and flowered underwear or bra is not a good thing. A more natural colored undergarment is best. If you don’t want your bra straps to show, be careful which shirt and bra combinations you wear. I am have some great ideas on my Pinterest board.

Jewelry is best kept simple; we want the focus to be on you! Rules can always be broken for a few trendy images too!

Lastly, bring your prom dress or favorite dress for some fun and artistic shots!

Want to wear a hat for some of your images? Great, but please do not wear the hat until it is time for the shot. This is because a hat can leave red lines along your forehead. Like suggested to the ladies, it is recommended that you do not try out any new hair styles right before your session, just in case you are not happy with the outcome. Don’t forget to shave!

Bring some classic and timeless solid color shirts, but also don’t be afraid of bold colors and patterns. Jackets, coats, ties, and other accessories are great to put on for a few shots too. Shirts are more important than bottoms or shoes, they only show in a small amount of the images. You can get ideas from my Pinterest board.

Lastly, relax! This will be a fun experience; a memory that will last a lifetime. I will make you feel comfortable and help you look your best, that’s my job! Congratulations as you begin a new chapter in your life. On behalf of Remember Me Photography, I wish you much success!
